J. Michael Cheezem
Chief Executive Officer
A second-generation Florida developer, Mike Cheezem began his career while still in college, when he and two friends built
an eight-unit apartment complex, which they completed and sold within six months. He continued compiling hands-on
experience in all phases of development, from handling closings at the well-known Brickell Place Condominiums in
Miami to a stint at Ryan Homes of Virginia, one of the top 10 homebuilders in the nation.
Cheezem founded JMC Development Inc. in 1972 and JMC Communities in 1978. Since then he has directed the purchase,
development, construction and sales of 13 communities on both Florida coasts, totaling more than 3,700 homes, plus
a successful partnership with Hampton Inn in downtown St. Petersburg. Other communities and resort accommodations
are in the planning stages. The 2003 Professional Builder magazine's “Giant 400” issue ranked JMC Communities No.
161 in the U.S., with $113,200,000 in sales for 2002.
Cheezem holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and real estate from Florida State University and a master’s
in business administration from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is a licensed Florida real estate
broker and aircraft pilot. Active in a number of environmental protection and community organizations, including
Habitat for Humanity, Cheezem belongs to numerous regional and national professional organizations. He was honored
as 1998 Builder of the Year by the Contractors and Builders Association of Pinellas County, and as 2003 Clearwater
Beach Business Person of the Year.
John P. Hobach
Chief Operating Officer
Skyline views of Chicago invariably pan Michigan Avenue’s glamorous shopping and hotel district and include the distinctive
angled roofs of One Magnificent Mile, whose design won the 1984 Best Structure Award from the Structural Engineers
Association of Illinois. John Hobach, now JMC Communities president, shared in that prize for his contributions to
the conception, design and construction of the internationally recognized landmark.
Since 1986, he has shared his award-winning skills and talents with JMC, where he began by serving as project
manager for a number of communities, including HarbourSide, Dolphin Cay and The Grande. He now has overall responsibility
for operations at all JMC communities, with primary focus on design and development.
Hobach holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of North Carolina and a master’s in civil
engineering from North Carolina State University. He is a registered professional engineer, Florida class A contractor
and Florida state threshold building inspector. He is active in various community youth programs, including serving
on the board of directors of The Children's Dream Fund in St. Petersburg.
